Regular Stream & Professional Stream

REGULAR STREAM

Our Regular Stream is for those students who see ballet as a hobby and are not looking to pursue ballet as a professional career.  We have the following five groups:

  • Kids 1 group is for ages of 3 to 4 and it is very much a pre-Vaganova program. The recommended minimum attendance is twice per week. The focus is on developing coordination and musicality through the use of games, songs, noisemakers and props to teach basic ballet concepts in a fun and interactive environment. This is a semi-structured class with opportunities for self-expression and movement discovery. We also focus on stretching, balance, coordination and increasing confidence in our young Kids.
  • Kids 2 group is for ages of 5 to 6 and again it is a pre-Vaganova program. The recommended minimum attendance is twice per week. The group incorporates floor work to develop strength and flexibility, the basic ballet concepts of arm and leg positions and across the floor to develop balance, rhythm, musicality and coordination. The class also encourages freedom of expression and imagination. The group generally participates in our performances.
  • Plie group is for ages of 7 to 8 and is again a pre-Vaganova program. The recommended minimum attendance is twice per week. This group is preparing for the Vaganova system. Students at this level focus on building their dance vocabulary and memory of steps, combinations and performance pieces. Following completion of the Plie group, students will normally enter Jete group or, if they are selected, they may enter the Pirouette group.
  • Jete group is for ages of 9 to 11 and this is when the students become introduced to the Vaganova syllabus. Students in this group are taught Year One and Year Two of the Vaganova syllabus. Recommended minimum attendance is twice per week. Students at this level focus on building their dance vocabulary and memory of steps, combinations and performance pieces.
  • Fondu group is for ages of 12+ and students move into this group from Jete or when transferring from other ballet school. Students in this group are taught Years One and Two of the Vaganova syllabus. Recommended minimum attendance is twice per week.  Basic technique concepts from Jete group need to be mastered before entering this level. Great attention is paid to correct body placement, alignment and building more strength and control of the limbs and torso. Pointe work takes place for those who are ready.
